Well, I built myself a new game machine. Here's the specs: VERY cool Ferrari red Hellstorm 3000 case from my buddies at www.3dcool.com (they're here in Rochester, nice folk! - Patronize them!). This case is a nice, full tower, with 6 front 5 1/4 drive bays, and 1 accessible 3.5" drive bay. There's a sliding "hydraulic" door that covers the front drives when not in use (see pics below). I had the additional mod of having a window cut in the side, and added VANTEC stealth fans, that are super quiet. I also added a Digital Doc 5 fan control, that monitors temperature and allows me to turn fans on or off individually. Here's the link to the page for the Hellstorm 3000. The motherboard is a SOYO SY-P4I, which I purchased from All Star Shop on the internet (Here's their product page for it). I also purchased 1gb of 266 DDR Ram, a Volcano 7+ cooling fan, and the MSI Nvidia TI-4400 video card from these folk. They did a great job, shipped it exactly when I expected it, and everything was intact. I had a need to work with their customer service and they were polite and prompt. All around - a great place to purchase from, with very competitive prices. For storage, I added a Panasonic LF-D321 DVD-RAM/R reader/writer, a TEAC 40x24x48 CD Rom drive (not in the picture because I'm backing up my old machine with it at the moment), and dual 160gb Maxtor IDE hard drives, configured in a Mirrored configuration (so if one dies, the other just keeps on chugging - RAID 0,1, and 0+1 is built into the SOYO mobo). I finished things off with some visual/cooling touches. I added a red Cold Cathode light kit, and Red Rounded IDE and floppy drive cables (which come up sort of orange with the cold cathode light on). Bought this stuff from another world famous custom case company here in Rochester, NY Frozen CPU So what does the final result look like? Well kinda like this (Click on each pic for a larger view): |
