So you want to be a poster....

Poster Guidelines

First and foremost I need to know you - this listserv is not about having a billion people posting scary things.  I want to be sure that the folks that have permission to post here are competent at assessing the risk involved in a particular threat, trustworthy at distributing information about it, and capable of creating a well written post about the assessed threat that is both well thought out and reasonably clear and understandable.
You must be able to clearly write about the risk, confirm it from at least 2 sources before posting, post concrete information about what people can do to avoid the risk, and couch your terms in a way that computer neophytes can understand.  Understand that subscribers to this list come in a variety of experience levels that ranges from complete newbies to computers all the way up to security threat assessment experts.
You must NEVER, EVER post a hoax.  I want you to be absolutely 100% positive that something is  a threat before you post it.  Posting information about hoax threats will get you booted from the poster list - I'm very serious about this and won't allow second chances.  The list is only a useful tool if EVERYONE trusts it.
I'd recommend that posters have good newsfeeds about threats from a variety of sources  - especially NOT limited to the "popular media".  These PM feeds (CNN, MSNBC, etc.) tend to overstate threats, and have been known to be duped by hoaxes in their eagerness to publish a threat.
This listserv is NOT a discussion group.  It's a notification system.  As such I'd prefer that ALL discussions about threats occur offline in another group, or by private email.  Please abide by this.

How to apply to be a poster

Simply email me about it.  If you feel you need to back up your request, submit to me a sample post about a threat that has occurred in the past, and I'll check it out.

Ok now I'm a poster, what do I do to post?

First you need to prepare your message.  Thoroughly research the problem and be sure you've confirmed it from reliable sources.  Spell check and look for problems in grammar.  Remember that much of the audience is NOT technically literate - you must make your instructions and information clear, concise, and readable by the vast majority of PC users - not consultants - USERS!

Once your message is composed simply email it to: mailto:viruswarning@azcomputer.net

That's all there is to it!  Remember once you've pressed SEND there's no way to get the mail back - it's GONE :-)

Enjoy...
