What is it?
This system is a listserv dedicated to attempting to distribute widely
information about new security and Virus threats as early in their spread as
possible. This is NOT a public listserv. I manage the participation
closely - only people whom I know and trust to have good judgment about
evaluating a threat and posting appropriately about it are allowed to post to
this group. No one can REPLY to the group and have their reply propagated
- all replies are directed BACK to the original poster, and attempts to spam or
send a message to the group will be rejected by the list server.
I will NEVER publish your name or email, nor will I sell or distribute this
information knowingly. All ability to retrieve the list members by any
means other than the administrator himself doing so have been disabled. I
will not use this information to try to sell you anything, this listserv is
strictly a community oriented system to allow you to get as early and effective
a warning as possible of new threats.
What DOESN'T this listserv cover?
This listserv is NOT a means of discussion about viruses, nor is it a be all
and end all list of every threat that exists. We intend to address
outbreak type situations, and new or dangerous security
threats and the patches that affect them. Most of the posting members of this list
have their fingers on the pulse of a variety of information sources for threat
evaluation. As such they have the ability to identify and report early
in the outbreak. The rest of the membership can take advantage of this
early warning in the best way that is suitable for them. If there IS
protection, patch or antivirus info available for the threat we'll certainly
pass it along, but many of these will be simply a heads up.
This listserv will probably NOT tell you how to clean a virus - you should
have good virus software for that job. It is to be used simply as a
warning vehicle not a virus technical support line.
This listserv is not a bug traq listserv. It's ONLY purpose is early
warning, and DOES cover such things as worms and viruses. See www.ntBugTraq.com
for info on a good BugTraq site.
Who manages the listserv?
At the moment Lee Drake is the
administrator and manager of this listserv. Any inquiries should be sent
to him.
Who is authorized to post to the listserv?
Only Lee Drake, and a select set of networking professionals can currently
post to this listserv. If you feel you are qualified to post, please
subscribe to the listserv first, then send me an email detailing your
qualifications. In general, I'm only going to authorize people I already
know (personally or professionally).
